Windrush Child by Benjamin Zephaniah 9-11

VIEW IN EDSHED

Leonard arrives in the busy port of Southampton, England, with his mother.  He is dismayed to find that his father is a stranger to him, it is freezing cold and the food doesn’t taste like he is used to back home in Jamaica.

Leonard does not complain; he knows that he is here to try and make a better life.  He encounters bullying in school but tries his best to make new friends and do well.

How can a boy so far from what he is used to learn to enjoy his new life when everything is so different?
